Classroom Safety Lockdown Devices

To enhance safety in general assignment classrooms, Facilities Management has installed manual lockdown devices which offer a simple, user-friendly solution that can be quickly activated in an emergency. Facilities Management installed the “Nightlock” brand lockdown devices in all Center Hall classrooms and lecture halls. Each classroom door has been retrofitted to allow deployment of this simple locking mechanism in an emergency and a user guide will be placed above each device. Faculty, students and staff in Center Hall should review the user guide to be prepared before a potential emergency.

Facilities Management is identifying the next group of general assignment classrooms for device installation. Given the large number of classrooms and varied door configurations throughout campus, this will be a phased process.

How to Use Lockdown Hardware

	Open box mounted to wall near door.
	Remove hardware piece.
<	Slide the wider part of the hardware into the door-mounted slot.
	Slide it down until the other end rests in the floor-mounted slot.
	To remove, slide back up and place back in box.
